A signed and dated painting by Francesco Curradi

Tommaso Tovaglieri
The paper presents an altarpiece by Francesco Curradi (1570-1661), a ‘Madonna and Child appearing to Saint Francis’, which has been made known on the occasion of its donation by a private Milanese collection to the Museo dei Cappuccini in Milan. The work, signed and dated 1614, not only constitutes an unequivocal point of reference in the long career of the Florentine painter, but also provides a clearer understanding of his stylistic development during the earlier part of his life.
